Professional Competency 2
Professional competency 2 has to do with the language of instruction. As language teachers, we must be able to communicate clearly and properly in the language of instruction so that even the weaker students can understand most of what is said or written. We must communicate with the efficiency and ease that is expected of a professional language teacher.
My development
I believe that I have reached the advanced level of mastery. Seeing as English is my first language, I have never had issues in communication be it orally or written. I express myself with the ease, efficiency, precision, and accuracy expected of an English teacher. Throughout my internships I have perfected my ability to teach in the language of instruction. Seeing as many students do not have English as their first language or are still developing it as their first language, I have learned to simplify my speech and written instructions so that students may understand all or almost all of what I have said/written. I have found that, even the weaker students understood what it was that I was explaining and that is the reason why I believe myself to be at the advanced level of mastery.
Artefacts
This video is of one of my lessons that I taught to my group of secondary 2 students. In the video, it is clear that I have no issues in expressing myself in English so as to be understood by my students. I have no issue in responding to questions that students have nor do I have any issues in restating something that I had just said using different words when some students had not understood. I also have no issue in properly writing information on the board without making mistakes.

Let's Talk
1/2
The pictures with attached documents demonstrate my ability to understand that students may need more guidance when it comes to understanding how to communicate in or comprehend English. When reading documents with words that they may have never seen, I created a document with those words accompanied by their definitions. I also understand that communicating in English can be difficult for certain students and as such, I created the “Let’s Talk!” document so that students would have a guide that they could use when responding to discussion questions that I assigned to them.

The Zoo-phonics alphabet is something that the students from the school learn in nursery and kindergarten so, by the time they reach the first grade they know their alphabet using those animal names. Every week, the students are introduced to a new set of words, and we teach them using the zoo-phonics so that, by the end of the week, they are able to complete the spelling test. I had never seen those before and so I spent time learning them so as to help my students to better succeed in the language of instruction.
